Craft Show

Yesterday was my annual craft show at the American Legion hall in Spooner. We always have fun and this was no exception! The weather had turned ugly the day before in the late afternoon and the roads were awful for most of the evening before and icy in the morning, but people came out and we had a nice crowd! Here is a few photos of what was there

I took my fudge as usual, I had better not retire from doing that for a while as people start asking me in April if I will be there in Nov. It was a blessing and a great day as the sun came out for a few hours ! Blessings!!

Hope

Have you ever needed to be hopeful??? Have you ever needed to be encouraged and no one around to help you out except yourself! I have been there too many times over the years and you know what, I think I am okay and very hopeful for many reasons!
I've learned to depend on my heavenly Father for hope, joy and peace! They come as a package set! I love package sets, don't you??
Proverb 13:12 says " hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a dream fulfilled brings life and joy." Hope through believing in the life giving joy of knowing Jesus brings joy! It may not always be the joy you want it to be or thought it should be, but when you look back there's joy and hope looking right back at you! Over the years this is one of the many lessons I've learned!
This time of year should bring us so much hope! Hope if the giving of thanks next week for all that has been given to us. Then the Christmas season brings us more hope in believing in what happened so many years ago for us in a lonely stable! Find hope this season and enjoy the time with family/ friends! Blessings!

Challenge

Well, I'm a huge fan of good challenges. so when I found this Bible challenge I in! I bought myself another Bible, I think this number 6. But this is a journaling Bible and I plan to doodle in it, not just write in with notes. I think the website is movethemountains.com I've started, but behind already just because I am!
I had a great weekend. Made black raspberry jam for gifts and Italian beef in the crockpot! It was actually hot here this weekend and I had the car ac on! Go figure! Have a wonderful week!! Blessings!!

Joy

I have a friend Chris who has a great blog called betterthoughtmedia.com. Today she posted a great one. so please go to her site and check it out.
I read Ann Voskamp's book on 1001 gifts  a few years ago and it made a BIG impact on me. I started a journal for a year and filled it, then I started a different prayer journal as that is what I needed to do and knew it! Learning to listen and be grateful is hard after number 20.
I bet most of us have 20 things we can and are grateful for, but after that going the distance can be rough some days. So, now I'm thinking and praying if I'm to combine the two journaling issues.
My prayer journal now is all on my son's family because his family needs prayer, well we all need prayer, and I feel called to pray for them, so since there is 7 of them, each one has their own day that I write down a prayer for them or scripture verses that the Lord leads me too for them! It may sound complicated, but it's pretty easy!
Joy comes in so many ways and to acknowledge them is so important to you and the Lord! When we acknowledge the everyday joys, we are drawn closer to God!
Blessings to you all!!

Mini Vacation

So Gordon made an executive decision about a month ago to take me on a 36 hour mini vacation.
We went to Chanhassen Dinner theater in the Twin cites area and saw Came lot, stayed the night, went to Cabela's and found a Trader Joe's for me! Had supper with Kate, Kurt, Olivia,  Lily and Kora at "Buca". It's an Italian restaurant that serves family style meals!  Very good food!We got lost and turned around about 5 times, but we got there wherever there was and got home safely! It was pretty funny at all  the turn around time we spent being lost! You see I was driving, I'm the co pilot, the navigator and Gordon was the passenger this time! He gets car sick if he can't see the road so reading the map was out or my phone, so there we are!! It was pretty funny and exciting, we didn't get hurt and that's all that counts! But next time we will be better prepared as we are getting new iPhones and can have the directions spoken to us!

Book

So I finished reading "Almost Amish" By Nancy Sleeth, it was interesting. She is into more of less is more attitude which I feel can be helpful for young married people, single people or like me people with too much, which I am continuing to get rid of things. Cleaned out the pajama drawer today, next on my list is my earrings. Then, the drawer with odds and ends of Christmas items that have no meaning to me.
Nancy did say some interesting things though so I don't want to brush over them lightly. She did talk about making relationships that are meaningful is much more important than stuff and they were able to teach that to their children. They have downsized several times and eliminated more items in the process. I am awed by that, I get overwhelmed and stop when I can't see the big picture. My friend Chris is a life coach and I should hook up with her in how to reach a happy medium and not quit this for weeks in getting rid of stuff that has no meaning to me ! Help Chris if you are reading this. Stuff is stuff and I keep telling myself that, but sometimes it doesn't translate to my brain!
But here's to a better week and more purging when I find time. This week Gordon and I are going in to the twin cities to see Camelot which is playing at Chanhassen Dinner Theater. This is last years Christmas gift to us! Staying the night and seeing the kids, going to Cabela's and getting away from here, YAY!!!!! Blessings, Earlene

new book

So I saw this on a website as a good read and ordered it for $.01 from Amazon, of course I had to pay shipping as it was coming from not Amazon, but hey that was $3.99. So I'm reading this and the main theme is living simply! Relationships are more important than stuff!! That hit a cord with me, as I'm purging. I should take a count of all the things I get rid of, but then I'd either be embarrassed by all the crap I collected over the years and wasted money or just sit down and cry over all the money I spent on stuff! So, I will just continue getting rid of stuff. Sending my grand niece a bunch of kids books, yes, it will cost me, but I think she and her sister can share the books for little kids. I would rather spend the money. Their children love books. I have about 30 Golden books and don't know what to do with them. I'm also giving away my kids rocking chair to a young family in the area for their children. Everyone has sat in it as far as my children and grandchildren, now is the time to pass it along! Back to reading my book, blessings to you all!!

Fall is here

Fall is here, trees are turning colors, but not in full color yet. I think it's going to be a mid October color! My fall allergies are in full bloom, sneezing, sore throat from sinus and a small cough!
My friend Cheryl got me a beautiful mum, looks like daisies. Got it planted last week, I thought about getting my lights ready for Christmas in the front planter.
Gordon is out duck hunting, except he just shoots at them. We don't like wild duck very well, but I'll figure something out. I cleaned Gordon's closet, just his shirts. Now he can't find anything, oh boy! I got in trouble as he can't tell that winter shirts are on the left and summer on the right, to me it made sense! It will be a mess in a month anyway! I'm still purging, but not as fast as I had hoped to get done.
 Blessings to you all!

weekend

Gordon, our son Kurt, son in law Trevor and his Dad Larry took the siding off the back side of the garage yesterday and got replacement siding up! Thank you guys!!! Gordon wanted to paint the garage and knew that the siding on the west side needed to be replaced. So yesterday was it, now to prime and paint!
Kurt brought 2 granddaughters and one of their friends with him, so I put the girls to work in the house as it was drizzling outside. Spot cleaned my main carpet and then when it cleared up a little, window washing using Windex spray that you hook to the hose, it's so slick!! They did some stacking of wood for Grandpa and driving the 4 wheeler with the trailer. Good job girls!
Then we went over to the Burch Barn a local place and had fun walking the corn maze, shooting the corn shooters, sliding down the hill and just hanging out. Thank you to Becky, Daniel and family for this fun spot to be for families!
My friend got me a mum from the Country Lane Pantry in Rice Lake, it's gorgeous!! Thanks Cheryl!!

back again

So, I couldn't truly make the move over to Wordpress. I had so much trouble downloading photos and got so frustrated, so I'm back here.
My leg sore finally got healed and it only took 3 1/2 months. Longest time ever in not showering! Sponge baths and I bonded, but let me tell you Bob, I was so in the shower when I got the okay!!! Now I wear support stockings for the REST of my life to keep the swollen legs down to a low roar! I have learned the art of putting these suckers on!!! It's truly an art form!!! Tom, if you or Chris are reading this, you should take photos of this art form, Just kidding!!!! LOL!!!!!
My baby boy turned 40 last month, I can't believe it, I don't feel over 40, but there in lays the problem, I am older than 40, yeah, and I am proud of my age, but really, Kurt can't be 40. We went to a really fun place for his birthday called the "Muddy Cow." So fun and we had given him a little drone the weekend before for his gift. He had a blast up here flying it! He's such a great guy!
My little girl turned 43 on Labor Day this year, how does this happen??? We had lunch on the Saturday before her birthday and spent 3 hours or so together. Had a good time! Love that girl!!!
She loves Jesus and it shows in her life, just a great counselor!
So, now the temps are cooling down and I dread what's coming, but I'm not going to fret about it! So, we have a little project next weekend, so I found a new to me website and found a couple of recipes to try out on all the guys. One is a "chicken fajita casserole" and another is a breakfast casserole, found them at www.smalltownwoman.com . They sound good and easy! Gordon, Kurt , Trevor, and Larry are replacing the back side of the garage siding and hopefully it goes well and gets done in a day!
Well, that's enough rambling on for the time being! Blessings beyond and back!

Everyday life

I'm trying to figure out what to do with this blog! I want to update it and figure out why people can't leave a comment, it looks okay from my end, but friends still can't leave a comment! So is it time to  move from BlogSpot and upgrade to another site??? I tried one time to get set up on Wordpress, but it was difficult as I'm not tech savvy! I like it easy and simple!!! Is that too much to ask?? I would some interaction with my readers and some input, so if you can't leave a comment, please contact me as esnojd@yahoo.com Thanks and many blessings!

4th of July

What does the 4th of July mean to you?? To me, I'm so thankful to live in this wonderful country, even though at times it may seem scary with all the violence, unrest and uncertainty these days, I'm still proud to live in the land of the free and home of the brave! Please pray for our leaders and service men/women! They need our prayers and we need to do it! Prayer is the only answer at this time, it has always been the answer!
Our twin granddaughters are here for the weekend. It has been busy! Went to the Potter's Shed to paint pottery, walk around an Art Fair and play a board game tonight! They are so much fun!!!
Lily did a boy gnome and Olivia did a girl gnome! Fun times!!!!  Blessings!!!

Ordinary days

Have you ever felt like life is going on and your watching a TV show?? I'm just chilling out and feel like my life is very boring! Boring might be good sometimes, but I feel like I'm just adrift! I don't like it. I'm not saying I want something horrible to happen, but enough of the do nothing attitude! So, I have signed up for 2 on line Bible studies and love it!!! My evenings are full of reading the books, God's word and writing down scripture! LOVE IT!!!!! I never have written down scripture just to write it down, but I'm hooked! It seems to jump out to me and I retain the verses better! What do you do when the ho hum attitudes hit you??? I know some of you have had trouble adding comments to the blog, but I hope I got it fixed! Blessings!!!

organizing

I have too much of stuff, random amounts of this and that! So, I have decided to organized , pitch or give away! No other choice! Because if I give myself another out, that will be right where I started with a lot of stuff! Some of it is hard to part with , but other stuff is easy. Why do we think that stuff will make us A. Happy, B. content, C. powerful, D. joyful, where it really is just more! So, what I have learned in my 64 yrs, I'm happy with me, not stuff and Jesus is my Joy! So there you have it! Keep you posted on the amount that goes out and photos of what it looks like organized! NO drawer or closet is off limits! That goes for "the Hub", too!! Blessings beyond and back!

wound care

If you ever need wound care, don't question it unless who told you is questionable, just go and get some help! I have this condition in my left leg called statis dermatitis, which means the varicose veins have collapsed under the skin and bleed out to cause the skin to look black /blue all the time which is for me on my shin! Anyway, back in December I bumped my ankle and broke the skin, got it almost healed and bumped my leg again in the same spot. Well, I thought I could get it healed it by myself again and waited a little long. Then I got cellulitis on that spot which is bacteria and needed antibiotics, but most of all I needed to go to wound care. Finally, I got a doctor to send me to wound care in Rice Lake. So, since the middle of April I have been going to ETI wound care. They are great and the leg is healing well. I had a minor set back in early May and now I'm back on track again. I have photos and they are gross so I won't post them, no begging!!! So, just learn from me and take care of your body! Blessings beyond and back!

Is anyone reading this blog?

I wondered this question every time I post on this blog! I wonder of people are bored with this blog and what could I do to jazz it up, but I keep coming back to God's whisper to write a simple blog that talks a little about our life, maybe a recipe here and there, maybe a word of encouragement, and just to say hi, this is what is going on in my life! Well, things are going to change anytime soon, I would love to upgrade this and reach out to more people, but I really don't have time right now, maybe when I retire. Be encouraged my dear friends, God is listening and cares for you, I do too! Blessings beyond and back!

Fervent Fridays with Priscilla Shirer

I bought the book "Fervent" back in January I think after watching " War Room" movie. Its a book packed with wonderfulness in the realm of prayer. So, the other day, maybe Wednesday I think I see that Priscilla is doing a online Bible study using that book, well sign me up!!! So, I did. I'm telling you this is going to be a great ride! This past Friday, she talked about finding your passion and what if you have lost it, where to go to get it back? So, where do you go, to prayer of course! Pray is not something to do when you are in trouble or need something, it's our love language to God! God wants us to not only pray for those is need, including ourselves, but to talk to Him like we talk to our friends, you do know that God is your friend, right?! So, join the movement on Fervent Fridays and let me know what you think of the study and the book!  Priscilla Shirer quote," When we come together in unity we are an armed force that the enemy cannot penetrate," what a great quote! Blessings beyond and back!

This is what I woke up to this morning

I know its a long title, but I just wanted to get your attention! We heard the freeze warnings and brought in the beautiful hanging baskets, but snow??? NO way!! May 14th, who knew! This is Spring people and no snow should be falling now!!! Well, enough whining! Can't change it!
I'm reading a really interesting book right now, called "Life Interruptions, the life of Jonah", by Priscilla Shirer. This lady writes great thought provoking books that are Bible based. She plays the lead role in the movie "War Room." I have 3 more of her books in my cart at Amazon.
Have a great weekend! Blessings beyond and back!

Mother's Day 2016

Do any of you remember when there was Mother's day banquets and/or dinners. What ever happened to them? Did we the next generation get so burned out from doing too much, that we don't celebrate our mom/daughters like in the 70's, 80's and 90's?? I suspect that is the reason, but I don't know for sure. I look back in fondness, but I'm sure it was a lot of work of whoever was in charge! I hope that Mother's day is special for you, it hasn't always been a great day for me, but hey, that's in the past and I'm moving forward! This year I think because he forgot my birthday, I got a beautiful hanging basket from Gordon, 2 baskets from Kurt and a spa gift card, plus lunch date with my daughter. I really SCORED!!!!! Blessings, and Happy Mother's Day to all of you!

friends and flowers

I have really great friends, I really do!! So, when my birthday rolled around in Feb. 3 of them from work got together and bought me a few items. A necklace, a balloon, and a violet plant. I don't mean to , but some plants make it and others don't! Well, the violet is making it and has 4 sets of blooms coming! I'm pretty excited!! Doesn't take much to make me happy!! Blessings!

8 things you don't know about me

I was looking at another site today and I realized I hadn't done this in a while. I think I did this back 2 years ago. So, I'm hoping I'm not repeating myself.
1. I'm a food snob! I'm kinda picky on pizza, vegetables I love /hate, apples(still love red delicious, though they have been passed by many other apples), I'm not a huge fan of spaghetti and I have forgiven ham for being canned(hate canned ham).
2. I love wearing lipstick, though there again I'm pretty picky on colors.
3. I LOVE biking and I'm now on the look out for a 3 wheeled bike as I'm afraid of falling off my bike with my back issues, that would be bad!
4. I love my blog! I'm not here a lot of the time, but I do love doing this part time thing!
5. I would like to learn how to hook rugs, place mats and etc. using the wool strips.
6. I really don't like to scrapbook. It's too putsy for me. Slap those photos in the book and move on!
7. I LOVE naps.
8. I love peonies! Love the smell, look and fragileness (I don't think that is a word) of them. My mom had the prettiest peonies on the block I think, She could grow them, not me. I have killed 3 plants and now afraid to try again. I hate that they attract ants and then you have to deal with the ant problem!
Well, that is a short list and hopefully I have amused you all! Blessings!!!

girls softball

Yesterday, Gordon and I got the chance to watch the twins play their first game of the season. We were going to go in the morning to watch Kora's game, but she came down with a cold and stayed home. So we got ready slowly and drove in for the afternoon. It was a pretty day then the cool breeze came in with clouds looking like rain any minutes. Just a few drops and it still looked like rain, but held off till we were on our way home. It has rained all night and most of today which we needed badly.
Tomorrow I'm starting Whole 30 eating program. It is suppose to help me feel better with my arthritis, so I'm going to try this for 30 days and I'm looking forward to some relief! So, I made meatballs today so I can take some to work tomorrow for lunch with a salad and some fruit! Then, I need to shop for the rest of the week. Hope you have a great week! Blessings!

Spring has arrived

I think Spring has finally arrived. I see no snow in the forecast, hopefully some rain! Our 3 granddaughters have started girls softball, so we are heading over to watch for the day on Saturday. Games are usually on the weekdays when I can't get off work in time. Gordon smoked some ribs over the weekend and we finished them up tonight, they were so good!! Have a great week and weekend! Blessings!! Check out Smitten Kitchen's post on garlic bread. I'm making it for the weekend!

April

April has been very strange since it came around! It has snowed more days than not. It has snowed more than 3 times on the Robin's tail as the old tale says! This is April 6th snow day. It was that greasy snow that packs together well for snowmen and snowballs! Today it snowed just a little bit ago, but nothing stuck to the ground! Temps are cool! High yesterday was 55, but today its 36. So much for 6 more weeks of winter by the groundhog!! Blessings!!!

Recipe

This is a new to me recipe that has 3, maybe 4 ingredients!
Crescent Roll Cheesecake Bars:
One tube of crescent rolls
one 8 oz softened pkg of cream cheese
1/2 cup of sugar
1 teaspoon of vanilla or lemon extract

This is for 8x8 pan. 4 of the crescent rolls on bottom of pan, Pat to the edges.
Mix cream cheese and sugar till light and fluffy, add vanilla. Spread on top of rolls. Then gently place the other rolls on top of filling being sure to not tear them apart. Sprinkle cinnamon sugar on top and bake at 350 for 30 minutes. Yum!!!! I made these last week and added blueberries to the filling, that was good!

Easter

He is Risen, He is Risen, indeed!!! This is one of my favorite celebrations, especially when I can say, He is Risen, indeed. Christ rose from the grave so we could have eternal life! What a wonderful expression of love! Love has redeemed us! What more can one say??? One thing you can say is yes to a relationship in Christ! Best thing I ever did!! Blessings and enjoy the day!

Saturday

So, tomorrow is Palm Sunday. I remember Palm Sunday as a wonderful prelude to Easter as a kid growing up in Chicago. We got dressed up and had our picture taken outside if possible next to the "tulip tree", which I think it is a northern Magnolia tree. Palm Sunday was confirmation day for those who had attended classes. I was 14 when I got confirmed. Didn't realize really what had happened, but I did have a Jesus encounter. My faith as a believer didn't really get grounded until I was 25 yrs old, but it was the beginning! What are your memories of Palm Sunday?? Blessings!!

Bacon

I love Bacon!!!! Gordon does too! So tonight for supper we will have BLT's. YUM!!! So how do you prepare your bacon?? Do you microwave it, fry it or oven bake it??? I oven bake it and all the mess is in the oven. It's so easy and less mess! Tomatoes look pretty good, huge and some taste(nothing like tomatoes from the garden, though). So you fix your BLT's with white bread or a whole grain bread??? I'm a whole grain person! I personally like Wright Bacon from Sam's Club. It has pretty good flavor and that's what matters to me! Well, blessings to you all.

March 1

Well, we all made through Feb., pretty much intact except Friday I got home from work and PT, ate supper and went to bed at 7:30 pm. Slept most of the night, slept all day Saturday, finally took my temp. about 5 pm which was 102.8. I got the CRUD!!!!!! Slept Saturday night in my lazy boy recliner and most of Sunday in the recliner. Yesterday I did shower and ran a temp till 3 am this morning. I did eat a baked potato last night. I have had 2 bowls of chicken noodle soup today. You would think I would be hungry, but not really! I have drank so much water, I did attempt a Gatorade, but didn't like it! As most of you know, I am a coffee snob and coffee tastes weird. Can't do it yet! The girls at PT said, "well, you said you needed a vacation", yeah well this isn't it! Rest is hard for me. I can tell you very easily to rest and you will heal faster, but I don't take it well when I'm told!
So, I'm on the mend and washing my sheets! God is good and I do feel rested! Stay well, my dear ones! Blessings!

Happy Birthday Kora!

Our youngest granddaughter, Kora, is 10 today! I can still remember  the day she was born. I got there the next day as I couldn't get away from work the day of her birth, but she was a beauty and a keeper! She has been fun to watch in the last 10 years. She's a kind child, always humming or singing, asks to help, loves games and loves the beach when she is here visiting us! Happy, happy birthday, sweet Kora! Blessings from your Grammy!!!

post birthday blues

Yesterday was my 64th birthday, I'm pretty excited to be able to sing the Beatles song, "When I'm 64." But just when I think things are going good, the "hub" forgets my birthday entirely. NO card, extra kiss, gift and extra hug. Man, where did I go wrong!???  So on this blog I feel safe to say, I'm really bummed out! He usually doesn't forget the whole thing, maybe a card , but this just hurts!! My kids and friends do better at making me feel wonderful for my birthday. It makes me wonder what is he thinking?? I don't want to read too much into this, but it makes one think! I told him this hurts my feelings, but sorry just doesn't cut it! Any suggestions?? Pray for me! I'm very sad! Blessings!

odds and ends

Okay, so one of my favorite sites these days to visit is www.onehundreddollarsamonth.com. The site belongs to Mavis Butterfield, she's a major gardener and gives you lots of tips to spend less money, beyond gardening help. Today's page talked about going to a new grocery store, which is a favorite thing for me to visit. I love going to a grocery store beyond the one I work at: love seeing the produce, how they have set up the aisles, love seeing the fresh meats or seafood, bulk food items and etc. Mavis gives you food for thought too.
Another favorite website is www.smittenkitchen.com. Deb Perlman is the author of that one. So, today she made caramel corn using miso, I have no clue what miso is or what it tastes like, so in that regards I'm a picky eater. If I buy the miso and don't like the taste , what do I do with the rest, throw it out, I think not! Have any of you tasted miso, will you describe it for me??? I did google miso, but still leery of buying it!
The Lord blessed me yesterday and today. Some of you see me daily or weekly, and know how bent over I have been for the past year. I have been gifted standing up straight for 2 days, woohoo!!!! Thank you Jesus!! This is beyond what I thought could happen! Blessings

Monday is coming

Tomorrow is the start of the work week, I'm all in and excited!!! There was this preacher back in the day that talked about being excited in what is ahead for us and to have the same feeling as we do when the weekend is approaching! That Sunday is coming and to get excited about church and what the Lord has in store for us!
I got my kale salad made in the fridge for my lunch tomorrow and breakfast is almost prepped! I'm excited to start the next work week, this is not always the feeling I have, so this is definitely of the Lord!
My friend Chris over at www.shesallthatsister.com has a wonderful kale salad recipe, so please check that out! Her website is fantabulous! The photos they take and the traveling they do is so much fun to read about, so please check her website out!
What are your plans for the new week?? Are you dreading the week or excited?? Is your cup half full or half empty?? Things have not changed for me at work. but my attitude has and that's all that matters to me! I have 1 year left to work full time, then I hope to go to 4 days maybe 3. See what the Lord says! Blessings!

Prayer time

A couple of weeks ago I posted about prayer and the importance of it! To take daily time whether it's 5 minutes or 20. minutes, prayer will add protection to your life. Protection from who? One guess, the enemy of Christ! Ephesians 6:11 says "Put on all of the God's armor so that you will able to stand firm against all the strategies of the devil." Did you get that?? We have protection for that enemy of all mankind that has been hanging around too much and bullying too many of our families for far too long! When I posted that, man, I got hammered by him, but " Greater is He who is in me than he who is in the world." My God wins and prayer works! Those of you who are joining me, how is it going for you? Memory verses are important, have you chosen some to memorize?? I working on a few, praying them every day and believing the power that is the verses. I did a memory verse a week a couple of years ago and I had someone at church who kept me accountable. I chose verses with the word hope in it, because Jesus is our living hope ! This year, my word is joy, so guess what I'm reading joy verses!! Get busy and start your prayer time! Blessings!!
