Saturday

Yesterday I had a wonderful day with my daughter! She is almost 3 months pregnant and I was able to get 4 tops for her(her birthday is next Sunday)that she liked! YEAH!!! I have been drooling over Fiesta ware forever and bought 2 salad or luncheon plates(my big splurge)! I got the lime green color, as I wanted the peacock blue, but that wasn't available(it was gone, sold out)! I'm so excited to have now 4 pieces of Fiesta ware, I have 2 old pieces and now 2 new pieces! Have a great week! Blessings!

Friday

Wednesday, Gordon and I had a date night. We saw "The Expendables" with Stallone, then ate at Pizza Hut(my old work spot once upon a time)! The movie is a guys movie, lots of blowing things up, shooting people and stuff, a little love and lots of guy talk(cussing)! On the other hand the pizza was great and no one works there that I worked with, which is great! Maybe I will share with you some day the few recipes I remember from Pizza Hut! Like stuffed crust pizza! Have a great weekend! See you later! Blessings!

movie pick

I have tried very hard not to preach my faith to all of you, though I have a lot to say when it comes to my faith! But the other day I rented the movie "The Book of Eli", it is an excellent movie! It is rated R for language and violence. It does star Denzel Washington and has a fantastic message! It's about the world has collapsed and not many survivors, but Denzel is one of them and is on a quest to deliver a book! The book is the only surviving copy of the Bible! I didn't give anything away by telling this much! It really spoke to me, shame on me for not memorizing scripture and reading my Bible everyday like it could be my last day to have it in my hands! To treasure God's word like food for my life and soul! I promise to do better and I hope you will also! Blessings!

ham leftovers

I had 4 hams in the freezer,I don't know why I bought so many hams! Actually 2 half hams and 2 whole hams, to be exact! So, last week I put a half ham in the crock pot and cooked with a can of coke poured over it while at work! Someone once told me to add a can of coke and it's really good on the ham! Anyway,(sorry for the short bunny trail), we have a little bit of leftovers! So today I made ham and wild rice chowder! I got home from work and put the rice on to cook(which took about 45 minutes). I worked on making the roux(oil and flour cooked in the pan, then added the cream with a little water to thin out the cream). I got the ham chopped up and added to the cream chowder mixture, then added the rice when it was done cooking! Yum is all I can say!! Blessings!

overload of zucchinis

Too many zucchinis??? I didn't grow any this year as we have learned our lesson, one plant can feed a million people! So friends have been giving us zucchinis! Today was the lucky day for Chocolate Zucchini Cake to come out of the oven! Gordon is a happy man!!! Chocolate and cake, wow , what a concept!!! What do you do with too many zucchinis?? I have made mock apple pie, zucchini jam(with jello), zucchini bread and fried pancakes(like potato cakes) with zucchini! Blessings!

sweet corn pancakes

I read on smittenkitchen.com about making sweet corn pancakes! So, yesterday while at work, I came up with the idea that I could make them when I get home with some help from the shelf at the store! I didn't follow the recipe! I bought a Jiffy corn muffin mix and that was the most extravagant item that I used in this recipe! Recipe follows: 1 box of corn muffin mix, 1 egg, 3/4 cup of milk, 1/3 cup of flour and 2 ears of corn with the kernel cut off! I added the flour so the pancakes were more pancake like, more milk might be needed! Fry them up as you would any pancake and serve them with butter and maple syrup! YUM!!!!!Blessings!

recipes

I was thinking today about Sample Fest which happens in December! I'm thinking about what to serve to the hungry public! I checked quite a few websites on what is new in the industry and what is being offered as classes to the public! This is very time consuming to me, which is okay, but I usually have this under control by now and know exactly what direction I'm going! Not so much this year! Last year we did a coffee bar as you came into the store with lots of stations! So, this year, I'm hoping you will help me out. I have 2 thoughts at this time, 1. is to have the theme of a tea party, 2. is finger foods like wraps, antipasto platter, etc. Any thoughts, let me know! Blessings!

soup

A neighbor brought over a piece of salmon for us on Thursday! I baked it on Friday night for supper with oven potatoes! It was so good!!! So with the little bit of leftover fish, I decided to make salmon chowder for today! I added potatoes from the garden and leftover cauliflower for a little more texture! The photos didn't do justice to the wonderful taste of the chowder, so I'm not including them! Blessings!

garage sale

This coming weekend there will be a garage sale at the local church called "The River" in Minong, Wi. to celebrate Minong Days. My friend, Christine and her husband Jim are very special people. They have endured one of the hardest things in life, a death of a child! John was 17 when cancer took his life, but through it all, John never complained and had the privilege of leading his father to a relationship with Jesus Christ! Jim is now dying from brain cancer after beating colon cancer! Their church is having a bake sale and garage sale with the proceeds to go to Christine and Jim! This is the way the church should operate! Christine and I work together at the local grocery store, but she is on family leave! Pray for them! Blessings!

corn

We bought some really great corn on Saturday, peaches and cream! We have had 2 meals with corn, but tonight I'm doing something different! I cut corn off of 2 cobs and sauteed it in a little olive oil, I then added some ham! When everything is warmed through I figured I would added a couple of scrambled eggs and a handful of shredded cheddar cheese! Serve this with a salad and that's "what's for supper tonight!"

But this site is so cool and I will be making a few things from the recipes in the very near future! Have a great weekend! We are going to a gamefair in Anoka, Mn. Meeting Kurt and whoever else shows up with him! Blessings!

graham cracker cookies

I have a very great friend, Anna, who is a fabulous cook! Well, one time about 20 yrs ago, she made these cookies for us to have with our coffee! We loved having coffee!! Graham crackers smeared with butter, brown sugar and walnuts that had cooked together, then poured over the crackers that had placed in a sheet pan! We still love them!
Graham cracker cookies recipe: crackers placed in a jelly roll pan, in a sauce pan 1 stick of butter, 1/2 cup of packed brown sugar, and 1/4 cup of chopped walnuts! Bring to a boil and pour over crackers, bake at 350 for 10 minutes! Cool and serve! Blessings!
