new diet

I went to BioActive Nutrients office in Spooner last Thursday and got some vitamins. I want to change the way I'm eating with the vitamins. So, I started the diet that goes along with the vitamins. The founder of the company is Doug Kaufman and you will find him online or on Christian TV. His program is called "Know the Cause." It's a pretty good show and very informative!! It's eating without yeast in your daily life. It's based on a anti-fungal diet. Look it up and there is a lot of information out there about the connection between yeast(sugar) and cancer. Just trying to be informed! Blessings!!!

Cold and windy

It's so cold here. The wind chill for tomorrow is suppose to be somewhere around -12 degrees.
That's cold!!!! Well, it is winter afterall! We went to Sam's club today in Duluth, Mn. The wind was picking up when we left there at 1p.m. All this to say, that winter is here for a while! So, I think it's time to break out some soup recipes for the upcoming week. Any suggestions??? I'm thinking maybe vegetable barley soup or minestone or chicken something. Please help me out!!! Blessings!!

too many bananas

What a title!!!! Well, I went to the store and bought 6 bananas, we ate one(me) . The other 5 are looking kinda sad and needed something done with them. My friend, Mary, said why don't you freeze them! Well, that would be okay, but I have 6 bags of frozen bananas in 2 freezers. So, 3 of them became banana bread tonight. My old standby recipe is: 2 eggs, 1/2 cup of oil, 2-3 bananas mashed, 2 cups of flour, 1/2 cup of sugar, 1 teapsoon of baking soda and 1/4 cup of chopped walnuts. Mix the bananas, eggs and sugar together, add the soda and flour. then the walnuts and oil. Pour into bread pan that has been greased well or sprayed. Bake at 350 for 1 hour. Very yummy! Blessings!

celebration

Yesterday was the 25th anniversary of my mom's homegoing! It is hard to believe that it has been that long! Where has the time gone??? I miss her still, but I see her everywhere I look. I see her here with me in the teacups she gave me, I see her in my grandgirls, I see her in my children's eyes and I feel her here with me when I cough(of all things), I sound just like her!!! Weird!!!! I don't have a picture of her to put up, one day I will. Mom loved watermelon, so the picture is my tribute to her! Virginia was a great wife, good mom, wonderful grandmother, sister, auntie, friend, teacher, companion, listener, and hard working! I know that one day I will see her again because of my trust and hope in Jesus! Miss you, Mom! Blessings and hugs!

Dinner: a love story

I bought a new cookbook called "Dinner : a love story" by Jenny Rosenstrach. In this book Jenny talks about having family dinners and how important they are to everyone! How it is achievable to make dinner a priority for all families whether its gourmet or peanut butter and jelly. We tried hard to eat together every night when our kids were growing up. At one point when the kids were younger like 6 and 9, we read a library book a chapter at a time at the table, like the unabridged addition of "Bambi." Totally worth the read and everyone at the table took a chapter to read. At this season of our lives, Gordon and I don't eat so much most nights. I try to make a large meal over the weekend so we can have leftovers for a few night during the week. I still like to try new recipes and my goal this year is to make one recipe at least once a month. So my question to you is, do you eat one meal together?? Do you have some old standbys like meatloaf or pancakes???? Blessings!!

website to check out

I was just reading at onegoodthingbyjillee.com about what makes us happy! It is a great list she came up after reading a list somewhere else. There are days that I have to work to be happy, I (for the most part) can be nice, but not always happy. I know that only I can do something about it, so I am going to make a list. Here goes: 1. my grandchildren, all 5. They are great kids!!! 2. sunny days. Something about seeing the sun does something for a person! 3. The "hub". For the most part, he makes me smile. It is his goal ( I think) to make me laugh, even when I should be somber or mad. 4. Seeing a cardinal. That was my mom's favorite bird, so when I see one, I think of her! 5. Cooking (should be a no brainer). I love cooking for family and friends! We have had some fun parties, maybe I should think about that again!!! Since I have been working, dinner parties have gone by the way! 6. Friends and family make me happy. I have some awesome friends and my family is the best! 7. My relationship with Jesus! Probably should have been number one, but 7 is the number of perfection for the Lord! I tell my kids all the time when they need a new perspective on a situation, that God always see the BIG picture, which is so much better than we do, so trust HIM!!!!! If we saw the BIG picture, it would probably scare us!!! Blessings and hugs!!!!

nutrition

My girlfriend, Gloria and I signed up for an online class for vegetarian cooking with lots of nutritional information! I think there is still room for anyone who is interested in doing more meatless meals and why we should be more interested in  eating this way! The recipes I saw(2) look very good and easy, groceries are available at my grocery store which is a plus because I don't want to drive everywhere to get one whatever for 2 tablespoons of that item!! Classes start in Feb, so watch for a few changes and maybe a recipe here or there!! Blessings and hugs. Recipes coming tomorrow for a coffeecake that my mom would make from time to time!

Happy New Year!!

What a wonderful day!! Happy New Year everyone!! I have not made any resolutions, have you! WE have been watching Andy Stanley when we can't get to church and he preached last Sunday on the "one thing". What is the one bad habit or debt or lifestyle change that you need to make happen, this is the year to do it. He used Nehemiah 6:3 as a foundational verse for help to overcome that one thing, whether its to stop smoking or get out debt or mend a relationship, this is the verse to say. Neh. 6:3 " I am doing a great work and cannot come down". He repeated this over his children, he repeated this all the time. When I think about taking on more hours for more money or take up one more hobby instead of finishing the ones I have started, I need to repeat this verse and see what happens this year!!Just a thought!! Blessings and hugs from me to you this year!!
