weekend fun!

It's Wednesday and I think a couple of grandchildren are coming to see us! Yippee!!! They are fun and we enjoy them so much! I'm trying to figure out a simple menu, so I can get some groceries: chocolate milk is number 1, maybe ice cream( Kora will like that idea, I know)! Maybe something that Daddy doesn't cook all the time, steak! Well, I will figure that out and take some pictures! Blessings!

chicken rice soup

I bought 2 packages of thighs yesterday! So, I baked one and half packages for supper last night(we had a guest) and with the few leftover, I poached the rest! So, today I will finish the soup project! This is what is in the soup: 1 onion finely chopped,3 stalks of celery chopped, 3 carrots chopped which I fried in the soup pot with some olive oil, then I added the cut up chicken and the poaching liquid, added a pinch of rosemary, thyme and sage(dried), after that came to a slow boil, I added 1 cup of brown rice! YUM!!!! Blessings!

inventory

I'm going to say this upfront, I don't like inventory days at work!! There I've said it and I'm not taking it back! OK, it's my own deal and you don't really care about my life at the store, but I just had to tell you! It's a long stinkin day at work as we can't straighten out the shelves or fill the shelves or work like I normally do for about 3 hours! So, I try very hard to fine things to do, cleaning, cleaning and then there's cleaning! So, I came home and made up some quinoa for lunch tomorrow, cut up the chicken(from the crockpot), got the water ready for pasta, just busy to burn off some energy from the day! Supper was good and Gordon is full(me too)!!! Blessings!

a mess

Well, as great as the crockpot brownies are, they are a mess to clean up! I'm telling you 2 important things: 1. use a knife for checking whether they are done by inserting a knife and if it comes out clean after 4 hours on low, they are done, just keep checking them 2. eat them while they are warm or scoop them out of the pot! I waited till today to remove them and it was a mess! They stuck to the crockpot bad and I got mainly the top part of the brownies! Cleaning the pot is not fun!!!! So be warned! Blessings!

5 layer brownies

I went to the crockpot365.com website and made the brownies today! Very good and gooey! I served them with a little bit of ice cream! Recipe is: 1 box brownie mix, 1 egg, 1/4 cup of melted butter and 1/4 cup of water. I melted the butter and added everything else into the crockpot, stirred it all together till mixed, then added 1 can of sweetened condensed milk on top of the brownie mix,1/4 cup of oatmeal, 1/4 cup of shredded coconut, 1/4 cup of chopped walnuts, that's it! Crockpot was turned on low for about 5 1/2 hours, I let them cool down for 1 1/2 hours before cutting, but cutting them was not successful! I ended up scooping them out which was great for the ice cream! Enjoy!! Blessings!

I was just at the website called thepioneerwoman.com to see what she posted today. Please check it out as she is giving away 6 crockpots(state of the art)! Then I went to a new site called crockpot365.com, which is a wonderful site for those of us that use our crockpots alot! Check out that blog as she is also giving away a crockpot! Spring

Spring has definitely arrived here in Wisconsin! It hasn't snowed 3 times on the robin's tail(only once) and it may not happen this yr, this yr is weird! Bluebirds arrived 3 weeks ago, which is way early for the northern area! Garden dreams are floating around our home early, too! Gordon planted 2 rows of potatoes already and finally it rained last night and this morning! I'm planning a large garden with Gordon's help! WE love the freshness of items from the garden, but I love the farmer's market! I would love to encourage all of you to plant something and go buy something from the farmers market as soon as there is something to buy! Gordon talked me out of planting sugar snap peas and lettuce so far, as they are so cheap at the market! Picture of last years garden! Blessings!

chicken marsala

We had a friend over for supper tonight! As much as I love to cook, sometimes I get myself in a dilemma over what to fix, so after changing my menu 15 times, I finally settled on Chicken Marsala which I hadn't made in a long time! It was so good and I wondered why I hadn't fixed it in about 10 yrs! I'm not sure! Blessings!

Tonight is steak and fried potatoes supper!! YEAH! Sometimes that what we need for a meal! I tried to take a picture of my new favorite over the counter salad dressing, but it didn't come out very well! It's Marzetti's Light Chiptole Ranch, yum! Tangy, but cool! Steaks were delish and potatoes were great! Gordon tilled the garden and planted 2 rows of potatoes today, first time ever in April! Blessings!

Today is Saturday and not really my Saturday to work, but I did, so I made a really easy salad! It's called "5 cup Fruit Salad".The recipe calls for 1 cup of sour cream, 1 cup of coconut, 1 cup of mini marshmallows, 1 cup of drained mandarin oranges, 1 cup of drained pineapple, but save 1 tablespoon of juice from the pineapple! Very easy and yummy! So, I took the camera to work and took a few pix of people(Tammy and Jenny), my demo area and the salad! Enjoy and Happy Easter! Blessings!

Good Friday

Tomorrow is Good Friday! What does that mean to you?? Do you go to church or attend a special meal with friends? Tomorrow our church is doing the stations of the cross, which I'm not sure what that truly means as it's not a Catholic church(someone told me the stations of the cross tend to be Catholic?). We will go and then return home for a quiet meal! Blessings!
