friends

We are visiting friends in Illinois. My dearest friend, Ellen, was home today and I got a chance to surprise her. We had a wonderful visit and got caught up on family!! We still miss each other and cry when we say goodbye!!! She said her life change when I left, that's a good friend!!! My life changed too. Blessings!! But God is binding us together and keeps us looking forward to Heaven, when we will never say goodbye!

Vacation time

I'm pretty excited to be going somewhere with the "hub" for the next week, We really enjoy traveling together! Stopping when we want, visiting where we want, looking at what we want, listening to books on CD, and eating!!! We are visiting friends this time! Illinois and Michigan here we come!! Hoping to see Amish quilts, get some tulips from Holland, Michigan and looking at Lake Michigan from the other side!!! Our friends, Dan and Jill, live in flooding Illinois, but want us to come  anyway! We have been friends for 40 yrs.and our daughter was born on their anniversary!! Then off to Michigan! I need to get out of work for a few days, away from the madhouse. This week there are changes going on there with new self- check machines, new computers and new cashier screens. Lots of things to go wrong!!! Technology! Well, talk to maybe during the trip or not! Blessings!!!!

Spanish Rice with a twist

My parents weren't really exotic food people. We ate pretty standard food, like chicken, pot roast, hamburgers, corn bread, etc, you get the picture. Every now and then, we ordered Chinese food! But my mom would make maybe once or twice a year, Spanish rice. You know the fried hamburger, rice, chopped tomatoes, and onion. Not spicy at all!!! No spice!!! Oh, I take that back, there was 2 dashes of Tabasco sauce. Well, in tribute to Mom's dish, I made my Spanish rice with Italian venison burger, onion, Mexican spices, corn, brown rice, 1 can of diced tomatoes and green peppers from last summers garden that I had froze. I also made corn muffins with corn. They were good and Gordon had 2. Blessings!!!

Sunday dinner

I was reading Jayme's blog over at the Coop Keeper and she talked about bringing back Sunday dinner with family!! I think that's a splendid idea and gonna do my own take off on it!! But since I worked 6 days last week, I didn't invite anyone over for dinner today, boo hoo for me!!! We will be having pot roast, carrots, onions and potatoes! I'm thinking about doing an apple salad to go along with all this food, so stop in and grab a plate, there's plenty!! We will be eating around 5p.m. Blessings!!! P.S. the snow is slowing melting, rain is coming tomorrow, more snow towards the end of the week.

recovery

Well, I'm okay today after the cake issue!! Debbie left a comment and I just had to laugh!
We are under another storm warning, this one says freezing rain possibly, sleet mix turning to snow. Enough already!!! Winter needs to go away and come next fall!! Spring where are you????? Gordon took a walk in the woods today and saw bear tracks already, so they are awake and hungry!!!
Next week we are taking a little road trip to visit some friends, pretty excited as we haven't gone on a trip in 4 yrs!! Well, that's all the ramblings for today!!
Our prayers go out to the families hurt in the Boston bombing!! We pray that Jesus will bring comfort to them and healing to all! Blessings!!

This is what spring should look like!!!

cake failure

So i saw this cake on debbie-debbiedoos.com. 2 ingredients, 20 oz can of crushed pineapple and a Angel Food cake mix. Mix the 2 together and pour into a well greased bundt pan, bake according to the cake directions, cool and invert. Well, the cake pan was too small and over ran in the oven, smelled up the kitchen as it was burning on the bottom of the oven. I inverted the pan and the cake stuck though I sprayed my little pan with cooking spray. Well, the last photo says it all. It tasted great, but what a sad looking cake!!!! I will make it again sometime when I haven't just cleaned the oven, yes I'm smiling, but not happy!!! Blessings amidst the tears I want to cry!!!!!
